Auaha Harakeke with Iri | Kōnae
September Series | Whakakai (Earrings)
L2 | 15 Dixon Street
Te Aro | Wellington
He toi, he aroha, he taonga.
Art, love, treasure.
Nau mai ki tā mātou wānanga toi!
Come along for a relaxed and welcoming evening celebrating raranga, mātauranga and community.
Begin the evening with a refreshing rongoā-inspired mocktail and snacks, before settling into a hands-on weaving session. You’ll be guided step-by-step to create your own kōnae — a two-corner basket — to take home as a handcrafted taonga.
There will also be an opportunity to experiment with whaikano (coloured) harakeke and simple colour placement. If you’d like to personalise your kōnae, bring your own pūritanga — upcycled straps, handles, ties or special decorative pieces.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an intermediate weaver wanting to explore colour, attachments or a new tāpiki (lock-off), this is a space to learn, create and connect.
No experience is required. Harakeke will be harvested and prepared for you, so you can focus on learning and enjoying the weaving process.
