Our kaupapa is grounded in te taiao, sharing tikanga through traditional Māori weaving using the native plants of Ōtari–Wilton's Bush. Held within this living landscape, we gather as a community to exchange mātauranga, mahi toi, and whanaungatanga.
Learn at your own pace in our community classes, with affordable and koha-based pricing options available.
Tauira begin by learning tikanga and weaving pūtiputi (flowers), kono, and kōnae (small containers).
With regular attendance, skills are steadily developed, leading to the creation of more complex forms such as baskets, wahakura, and finer kete.
We have a second venue available for evening and independent weaving sessions also available for educational and corporate purposes.

Venue Hire — Te Aro Studio
Te Aro Studio, L2/15 Dixon Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011 Suited for wānanga, hui and as a functional project/artist/ maker space. We offer weekend, full-day, half-day, evening rates and hourly rates subject to availability. Any other requests simply enquire. We can offer community rates for the right kaupapa. Capacity is limited to 70 people, 40 if seated around tables. We don't have capacity for self-catering but have a basic kitchen setup with fridge/freezer, microwave, glassware, whiteware and cutlery. Sorry no dishwasher - Rubber Gloves! We do have a lot of tools, work benches and wifi!
